South
Scattered thunderstorms are possible from Florida and southern Georgia westward through eastern and central parts of Texas. One area escaping the possibility of scattered thunderstorms Sunday will be from northeastern Georgia and eastern Tennessee to the Carolinas. However, this area will not be so lucky Memorial Day as scattered thunderstorms push into northern Georgia Sunday night and into the Carolinas by Monday. Temperatures Sunday will be very tolerable as highs hover around their seasonal averages. Highs in the 70s or 80s will be the rule both Sunday and Monday from the southern Plains to the Southeast. A few 90s are possible in south Texas and also in central and south Florida.
Northeast
Boston had a reason to celebrate Saturday as their high temperature soared into the upper 70s. This comes on the heels of only reaching the 40s for high temperatures this past Tuesday and Wednesday. Good news is on the way for Sunday with high temperatures expected to reach the mid 60s in the Boston area. Precipitation in the region Sunday should be confined from northeastern Pennsylvania and Upstate New York to New England. Only some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the areas mentioned above due to an area of low pressure aloft. By Monday, a new system will bring rain and thunderstorms to eastern Great Lakes and Appalachians. Meanwhile, New England will continue to see the possibility of a few showers or thunderstorms.
Midwest
A pesky, broad upper-level trough has kept temperatures cool across the northern tier of the Midwest. Parts of northern North Dakota did not get out of the 40s for high temperatures Saturday. High temperatures will remain below seasonal averages again Sunday from the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes. Expect a few showers to develop as a result of the same upper-level trough in parts of northern Minnesota, North Dakota, and in the U. P. of Michigan. Further to the south, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be located from western Great Lakes southwestward into Kansas. Memorial Day will bring improving conditions to the Northern Plains while the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes will see showers and thunderstorms.
West
High temperatures were still above average in the Seattle and Portland areas Saturday, but not anywhere close to the records that were set Friday. Expect high temperatures to stay around 5-10 degrees above average again Sunday in northern Oregon and much of Washington State. The cooling trend in these areas will continue through the early part of the week. An upper-level system will continue to press further inland through Northern California and Nevada bringing the threat for scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the Intermountain West Sunday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also in the forecast from Wyoming southward to New Mexico. Wind will be an issue to deal with in southwestern Utah, northwestern Arizona, southern Nevada, and southeastern California. Much of this area is under a wind advisory for Sunday with winds of 25-35 mph (gusts over 40 mph) expected.
